(Time has a way to slip by-especially in lock-down w a seven year old… ) Here a couple of tunes, I love. The first one is Wednesday Visit, comp. Paddy O’Brien. It’s in his book in aminor, but I love it in dminor. The second one is Ben’s Brogue’s, one of the many wonderful Charlie Lennon tunes, written for his late brother Ben, RIP. I’d like to nominate, if they haven’t already contributed, Holly Geraghty, Steve Sweeney, Patricia McCusker, Mary Shannon, Barbara H-Meier and Eugene Lambe for a tune. Wonderful Harpist Holly Geraghty for Music in The Town Concert

Music in the Town Concert Series proudly presents:

A family friendly evening concert of Irish traditional music with outstanding harpist and concertina virtuoso Holly Geraghty (multiple All-Ireland Fleadh winner) and the host, violin and viola player Anna Falkenau

The penultimate concert in the eclectic Music in The Town Concert Series 2019-2020 will feature special guest Holly Geraghty, a wonderful exponent of the harp and concertina and also a gifted composer. Holly hails from Ballindine, a small town in south Mayo steeped in a rich musical tradition. Surrounded by a storehouse of Irish traditional music in both her home and locality, Holly quickly developed her own musical style, which brought her to the attention of many Irish traditional music enthusiasts including Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann with whom she toured Britain, North America and Canada. Holly has also played at many international festivals including Rudolstadt Folk Music Festival, Germany’s biggest folk festival, and the Shetland Traditional Music Festival. Holly holds several All-Ireland accolades including the senior harp and concertina title. During the summer months she teaches at several music festivals including the Willie Clancy Summer School and the O’Carolan Harp Festival. Holly and Anna initially met when studying for a BMus at UC Cork, both graduating with first class honours and winning various prestigious scholarships there. They have performed together at home and abroad in the US and enjoy a bouncy rhythm, a beautiful tone and the exploration of old and new Irish trad. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear top-class music in an intimate, family-friendly environment in the centre of Athenry, easily accessible by train and car. Coffee, cake and a fine glass of vine will also be available at the Town Café. Book your place now, and enjoy a very special Saturday evening concert, from 6-7pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020.  The Town Café;  6-7pm (Doors 5.30pm); Tix.  €10/€8 conc./€5 kids/under 6 free.
