Tunes this weekend

Loads of lovely sessions ahead… getting me out of the house and on a break from distilling my research on Trad Music in Galway in the 1960s and 1970s into Chapter 4 of my PhD thesis. phew! Hope to see you along the way i gConnemara this weekend!

Great tunes

Spoiled for great tunes these last few days, Monroes yesterday evening was brilliant craic and mighty music. Was delighted to join Kevin Hough and Ger Clancy and a host of wonderful  musicians, Francis on the pipes, Gerry Hanley, Máirín Fahy, Mike Chang, Pádraig Mac Donnchadha, Bliss. Thanks to Gary Monroe for looking after the musicians so well and also playing some groovy bodhran in the session! Here a little clip from the tail end of the session….

Tunes in Cois Cuain

Had a lovely gig with James Donoghue yesterday. A mini concert in the snug of An Cruiscin in Spiddal :- Session in Cois Cuain, (formerly An Droighnean) this evening from 6 with some very special guests. Looking forward. We had a fab session last Sunday, with the one and only  Grant Dermody visiting and Charlie Lennon playing some of his wonderful fiddle music. Magic!

Talk and Gigs

Happy to report that my talk went well at the ITCM World Conference 2022 in Lisbon. Alas, I was already back in Ireland and presented remotely from Galway, alongside  Adrian Scahill, Pamela Cotter, Susan Motherway and Daithi Kearney. All had very interesting and thoughful presentations and John O’Flynn of DCU was Chair of the session; wonderful! Thanks to all. ICTM is taking place in Ghana next year. How cool! … Some sessions this weekend, all out Connemara way, in beautiful Spiddal and Furbo. Have a look at the gig calendar…

Wonderful concert

It was a wonderful, sold-out concert at the Schwind-Pavillon in Rüdigsdorf, nr. Gnandstein, Saxony in Germany. A stunning venue, first-class acoustics and truly special to play!
