Anna Falkenau – “Soulful, Inventive and Infectious”
Fiddle player Anna Falkenau has some news!
Anna Falkenau (fiddle, viola), Nuala Kennedy (flute, vocals) & Cathal Ó Curráin (bouzouki, banjo, vocals) will perform in Galway’s oldest and most distinguished Irish traditional music venue, The Crane, Friday December 6, 2024.
The three musicians draw on a vast and deep well of musical material, bringing exceptional musicianship to their music, full of spontaneity, creativity and joi de vivre. Nuala and Anna met many moons ago in Scotland and enjoy their quirky yet precise attitude to music. “I love Cathal’s bouzouki playing,” says Anna, “and like Nuala, Cathal is also a really special singer, full of depth and emotion”. It will be a concert full of musical devilment as well as raw-bar musical moments.
Anna will also be in Kinvara for a Courthouse Concert, 1 February 2025, and on a short tour of Germany with Nuala Kennedy in June 2025 playing select historic concert venues of great beauty and exquisite acoustics.
Following doctoral research into Irish traditional music in 1960s and 1970s Galway, Anna enjoys the presentation of private and public lectures on Irish music, most recently at beautiful Lisdonagh House: a luncheon lecture, followed by a recital with Holly Geraghty (harp) and Anna Falkenau (fiddle), culminating in a concert with Anna Falkenau and Steph Geremia, Pádraic Keane (uilleann pipes), Cathal Ó Curráin (bouzouki, vocals, banjo), Freda Hatton (harp, concertina) and Paul Moran (sean-nós dancing, harmonica, lilting) – a day described by the celebrants as ‘magic’!
